Sizanani Children’s Home
In August 2016, three Music Man Project tutors visited Sizanani Children’s Home for a 10-day teaching and research trip. They delivered 25 teaching sessions to childrens’ homes, day centres and orphanages from local townships. Their progress was presented in a public concert, which included the premiere of a new composition called “The Sizanani Suite”. The Music Man Project donated three suitcases full of instruments and trained teachers and volunteers so that they could continue with the educational programme and musical repertoire beyond the visit, and establish a Music Man Project outpost in South Africa.
Visiting isolated disabled children was by far the most moving experience of the trip for Music Man Project founder, David Stanley, who was accompanied by MMP Essex volunteer, Paul Cudby. Within a few square miles they found 8 individuals with a range of physical and learning disabilities. They had no access to education, therapy or healthcare. They could never leave their township homes.
Music Man Project tutors returned to South Africa in 2017 to offer continued support for the fabulous Sizanani Children’s Home and our latest international hub, MMP South Africa.
