The Music Man Project Kent
The Kent/Medway project began in September 2017 and has grown from the initial 12 members to now having a regular core of around 75 performers that come along each week. We have been described as a ‘big musical family’ where everyone is welcome and accepted, finds a place to belong, can develop friendships and grow in confidence, and where everyone - regardless of ability, achieves. We try to bring out the best in our performers and provide a platform where people with a learning disability can shine! We rarely have a problem finding soloists wanting to show off their talents, and it has been incredibly moving to see how those who started out with very little confidence or were terribly anxious, are now able to stand up - succeed, flourish, and steal the show! They are an inspiration. The Kent project is run by Andy, Sue, and Sarah – all qualified teachers and musicians with several years experience of working within the SEN sector. Alongside our staff team are an amazing bunch of volunteers who help facilitate the smooth running of sessions and play a vital role in making MMP Kent the unique ‘family’ that it is.
